PLAY
LENGTH –
Plays must be no longer than 40 minutes as reported by over half of the
official clocks. Timing shall start at
the first dramatic moment, e.g. first sound, light, dialogue, movement cue,
etc. The clock shall run continuously
until the last dramatic moment (cue).
PLAY
QUALIFICATION – One-Act plays and cuttings of longer plays may be performed at
Festival. Musicals as designated in play
catalogs are not eligible.
ATTENDANCE – All students
participating in the Festival must be in attendance at all shows except the one
immediately preceding their own.
ADULTS – No adults from the
performing school may be backstage, on stage, in the light or sound booth or on
headsets during performance, set or strike.
PRESET – Preset time in the shop
may be arranged at the discretion of the Stage Manager.
SPECIAL LIGHTING – Any special lighting must be preset prior to the
first technical rehearsal session (tech) with prior approval of the Host and be
available for all to use.
SPECIAL RIGGING – Anything to be flown must be rigged during the
allotted tech time. It must be taken
down after tech time, reset immediately prior to the 5 minute set and struck
immediately after the 5 minute strike time.
Flying time for production counts toward set and strike time. Any other arrangements must be approved by
both the Host and Stage Manager prior to Festival.
TECHNICAL REHEARSAL – Each show shall be allotted equal tech time. Unauthorized personnel will not be allowed in
the theater during a tech.
SET & STRIKE – Each show will be timed for 5 minute set and 5
minute strike. Set and strike may be
timed during the tech session or before and after performance. Arrangements for timing set and strike should
be made with the Stage Manager at the start of the tech. If set or strike times are exceeded during
tech, they can be retimed before and after the performance. If set and strike times are to be taken
during tech, it is expected that the same set and strike will be put up for the
performance as was timed during the tech.
To exceed the 5 minute set or strike will result in disqualification and
preclude the possibility of set related tech awards. Adults may be in attendance backstage during
set and strike but may not interfere or assist.
Adults and crew will be allotted time to be seated before performance.
ROYALTIES – The School Principal’s signature must appear on the
final play information sheet to indicate acceptance of the school’s production
and responsibility of compliance to all royalty laws.
MEDICAL RELEASE FORMS – The Guild will provide Medical Release forms to be
signed by every participating student’s legal guardian. These will be sent out with the play
information sheet and returned with the completed form. Any late additions to the Festival program
must bring facsimile of this form to Festival.
A copy must be retained by the Director.
STUDENT QUALIFICATION – All students participating at the Festival must be
regular full-time high school students as defined by their participating
schools. All participating students must
be members of NHETG.
DISQUALIFICATION – Failure to comply with participation rules may
result in disqualification.
Disqualification will be approved by members of the Executive Council
present. Any disqualified school shall
not be allowed to participate in the next level of Festival.
RULES – Any additions or deletions to these rules must be approved by the
board.
